Dear Rev. Edington:

Thank you for the recent letter announcing plans for the church’s centennial celebration.  I will not be able to attend the celebration, but I do have some reflections to share with you.

My father, Dr. Earl H. Brown, was a chemist with TVA and we first moved to Village One from Yellow Springs, Ohio, about 1934.  We moved to Long Island, N.Y. about 1937 and returned to Village One in 1941 where we lived until he died.  We began attending the First Presbyterian Church then and I attended regularly until I finished high school and went away to college.

After my medical training, my wife, Louise, and I moved to Mesa, Arizona where we have lived ever since.  I have enjoyed singing in our local church choir for over 40 years, but I remember getting my start when I began Attending choir practice at the First Presbyterian Church with my mother, Adrienne Brown, while I was still in high school.

I was also very active in Boy Scout Troop 82 which met at the church and I participated in paper drives and summer camps during the war years.  Our three sons continued that interest in Scouting here in Mesa and all attained the rank of Eagle Scout.  My father continued to work with Scouting for many years and received the Silver Beaver award for his services.

Best wishes for the centennial celebration and my your witness for Christ in Sheffield be a bold one for the next 100 years.
