| The Session as
Hands-On Leaders
The Session is the name for those
elected by the congregation to help lead the church in the ways of
Jesus Christ. There are currently about a dozen of these
dedicated people doing what Session members have never done
before.
In the past, these persons have
chaired the various committees of the church. These committees,
that oversee the current programs and operations of the church,
are now chaired by at-large members. The Session is divided
up into ministry teams that are leading the church in new
directions that we believe are faithful to God and equip and
strengthen us to more effectively serve Jesus Christ. There are
four of these teams:
The Worship Team –
this team is considering new directions for worship, the
possibility of moving toward a “blended” Sunday morning worship
hour, assessing any creative innovations that would enhance our
worship hour, and looking at adding other special worship
celebrations throughout the year, beyond what’s already in place.
The purpose is to enhance worship for this family of faith in
addition to attracting new people into this warm, loving, and
serving fellowship. This team is comprised of Patrick Smith
and Amy McCorkle .
The Stewardship Team –
this team works to educate our people about what it means
to be a steward, a servant of what God, in Jesus Christ, has so
graciously given to us. They want the church to understand that
stewardship is a way of life that involves the giving of money,
time, and talent. There are numerous ministries going on here
that our people need to understand about and to be encouraged to
support. This team devises the best and most faithful ways to
reach this end. Those who serve on this team are: Rick Deal,
Tommy Halcomb, and Nancy Sanford.
The Nurture Team –
this team oversees the beginning and expansion of all
faith-growing opportunities in the life of the church outside of
Sunday School. These include: small group ministry, expansion of
the Disciple Bible Study program, the scheduling of enrichment
classes dealing with the basics of Christian faith and practice,
new faith initiatives with our youth and children, and the
creation of prayer and other types of support groups. These team
members are: David Dotson, Mary Joyce Hobson, and Opal Parker.
Community Mission Team
– This group is charged with initiating new outreach
ministries into the community in a way that will personally
involve a significant number of our church people in these mission
directives. This team is composed of: Braxton Ashe, Eddie
Galliano, and Roger Tarbox.
